BEN LIM, FCA TEP - PARTNER
Ben Lim is fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and has a great deal of experience in international tax planning. Until April 2000, he was an international tax and offshore services Partner in the Mauritian representative firm of ex Andersen Worldwide, s.c. (De Chazal Du Mée) and a director of a leading trust company in Mauritius.

Ben is a past President of the Association of Offshore Management Companies in Mauritius and is a member of the following bodies:

   •  Asia Pacific Offshore Institute (Founder Member and International Director)

   •  Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and

   •  International Fiscal Association

On the local front, Ben has been involved in the legal and regulatory reform process. He was a member of the Mauritius Offshore Business Activities Authority ("MOBAA") Task Force and a member of the Company Law Advisory Committee ("CLAC").

He also participated as a Sub-Committee Member of the Policy Unit (Prime Minister’s Office) in the reform of the Financial Services Sector and the Pension Reform Committee
 
TOMMY LO, Bsc, FCA - PARTNER
Tommy Lo has been a member of the Institute of Chartered accountants in England and Wales since 1986 and also holds a bachelor degree in economics. Tommy has more than 20 years working experience both in the UK and Mauritius in the field of taxation, company secretary, auditing, accounting and corporate recovery etc.

On his return to Mauritius, Tommy worked for some time with the former Mauritian representative firm of Andersen Worldwide, s.c. before joining the Jade Group as finance director. He acts as company secretary to more than 100 local companies including 2 listed companies through Intercontinental Secretarial Services Ltd, of which he is the principal.

Tommy is also a stockbroker licensed by the Stock Exchange of Mauritius and is a member of the Asia-Pacific Offshore Institute as well as the International Fiscal Association.
 
ALAIN AHKONG, CIT - PARTNER
Alain is an international tax expert and is an associate member of Chartered Institute of Taxation, UK with vast experience in international tax planning. He trained with Arthur Young, London (subsequently merged to become Ernst & Young) and was the Managing Director of Arthur Young, Singapore when he left to set up his own practice.

His firm, Pioneer Management Services, is an independent member of Baker Tilly International in Singapore. He is also a board member of Baker Tilly International.

Over the last 20 years Alain has been advising multi-national companies on investments in Asia. Alain has worked extensively with the authorities in Singapore and Malaysia to obtain tax incentives for inbound manufacturing investments. Alain has also been involved in advising on the transfer of manufacturing operations from Singapore and Malaysia to the low cost centres in Asia, such as China, Thailand and Indonesia.
 
ALEEM RAMANKHAN, MSc, FCCA - PARTNER
Aleem has studied and worked in London where he qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant and also obtained a masters degree in Financial Management from the Middlesex University.

Aleem has worked for international accounting firms, specializing in auditing, taxation and consultancy services for a well diversified client portfolio in sectors such as garments and textile, wholesale and retail, manufacturing, property development, trade finance, banks and financial institutions, telecommunications and hotels. On his return to Mauritius, Aleem worked for six years with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he specialized in the audit of large global business companies, most of which are blue chip companies quoted on Stock Exchanges around the world.

Aleem is a registered member of the Mauritius Institute of Professional Accountants.
 
JOE CHAN, FCCA  – PARTNER
Joe Chan is the  Tax and Accounting Partner and has vast experience in tax planning, compliance and advisory work.  He joined Baker Tilly Mauritius in October 2003 after having held key positions within the Large Taxpayers and Income Tax Departments for 13 years.  Joe is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

He is well versed in advising on tax structures of large multinationals and has written a number of tax opinions on different tax issues. Moreover, he also has to deal with the Mauritius Revenue Authority concerning cases under investigation and agreeing tax computations for a large portfolio of clients.

During his career at the Income Tax Department, he was posted at the Investigation Section where he investigated into cases of tax evasion. He also conducted many cases at the Tax Appeal Tribunal where the amount of tax involved was very substantial. Being a Senior Tax Investigating Officer he had to supervise the work of several tax investigators and had to report on their performance. He also attended various courses run by the Tax Department. Moreover, he had to deliver lectures to stakeholders.

He formed part of the team which was in charge of setting up the Large Taxpayer Department in 2001. There he had to design the software and all related forms, that is VAT and Corporate Tax returns. During his career at the Large Taxpayer Department, which lasted for 3 years, he had to deal with the cases of large taxpayers, including banks and insurance companies.
 
YVES TOBIE, FCCA, MCIM – PARTNER
Yves joined the Civil Service in 1955 at the age of twenty and left the Government Service in 1975. Out of these twenty years working for Government service, he has spent more than ten years in the Investigation Section of the Income Tax Department.

Yves was granted a British Council Scholarship of two years to complete his ACCA at Newcastle Upon Type Polytechnic School and became a member of ACCA in 1975. He was appointed Accountant and seconded to the Income Tax Department to act as Investigating Officer in the Income Tax Department. Afterwards he joined the Mauritius Sugar Producers Association in 1975 as Accountant/Statistician and retired after having worked for M.S.P.A for more than fifteen years.

He was a founder of ACCA Mauritius which was launched in 1980, became the president of the Association in 1985 and remained as President for seven years. He was then made Honarary Chairman of ACCA for 5 more years. 

In 1984, Yves set up Tobun Certified Accountants of which he was the Managing Partner un til the merger with Baker tilly Mauritius in 2004
